The Olympic Spartakiad among young Olympians' clubs will be held for the first time in the Vitebsk region in 2011

March 3, Vitebsk / Sergey Kotovets - BELTA /. The creation of a network of young olympians' clubs and the holding of an Olympic Spartakiad with their participation in 2011 are envisaged by the regional program for the development of Olympic education for 2010-2012, which the representative office of the National Olympic Committee in the Vitebsk region is starting to implement. This was announced today by Viktor Bynkov, executive director of the regional representative office of the NOC, at a presentation of the program for heads of district and city education departments, a BELTA correspondent reports. The program involves the creation of an integrated structure for the development of Olympic education, the basis of which is intended to be the clubs of young olympians in educational institutions of cities and districts of the region. The NOC representative office will provide support in the creation of such clubs and financially encourage activists of the Olympic movement, but the initiative, of course, must come from the children themselves and their teachers, emphasized Viktor Bynkov. The NOC representative office plans to involve the teaching staff of Vitebsk universities in the methodological support of these clubs. A certificate of an Olympic club will be developed for young olympians, the right to possess which children undertake to confirm by their daily activities and active life position. Thus, it is intended to stimulate schoolchildren's interest in regular physical education and sports, their desire for physical self-improvement, and also to increase responsibility for their own health. The implementation of the program will not only increase students' knowledge of Olympic ideals but also expand opportunities for youth to participate in public life, and foster moral and physical qualities for a worthy entry into the modern world. Olympic education in the region is planned to be developed through various events of both sports and propaganda nature. Thus, for the clubs of young olympians, it is planned to organize a regional Olympic Spartakiad, which will include competitions in 5-7 sports, as well as excursions and meetings with famous athletes of the region. During the Olympic Games, the "Vitebsk Region Olympic" competition will become a permanent fixture in the region. Its participants will compete in the creative interpretation of Olympic ideals through literary and visual arts, and decorative and applied arts. Every year during the summer holidays, mini-Olympic Games will be launched in health camps, and tournaments for prizes from Vitebsk Olympians will be held. The practice of creating Olympic corners in schools, holding mass sports competitions, games, and quizzes using Olympic symbols will also continue, added Viktor Bynkov. -0-
