Olympic corners are planned to be opened in secondary schools in all districts of the Vitebsk region

April 14, Vitebsk / Sergey Kochetov - BELTA /. The National Olympic Committee's representative office in the Vitebsk region plans to open Olympic corners in secondary schools in all districts of the region. This was announced by Viktor Bynkov, the executive director of the representative office, at the opening ceremony of the first Olympic corner in secondary school No. 45 in the regional center, a BELTA correspondent reports. The main goals of the campaign are to foster children's and adolescents' interest in sports, their need for physical education, and their aspiration to achieve high results in various sports disciplines by the example of famous athletes from the region. The Olympic corners contain information about the Olympic movement and feature Vitebsk athletes who have become winners and prize-winners of the Olympic Games. According to Viktor Bynkov, the younger generation should know the outstanding athletes of the Dvina region who, along with famous artists and musicians, bring glory to the city and the region on the world stage. Secondary school No. 45 was not chosen by chance for the opening of the first Olympic corner in the region. This educational institution actively cooperates with the NOC's representative office in the Vitebsk region, and in 2008 it held an exemplary sports festival as part of the unified Olympic Day. "As an incentive for active work in promoting the Olympic movement, we decided to present the school with such a gift," noted Viktor Bynkov. The opening of Olympic corners in educational institutions is envisaged by the Olympic Education program implemented by the NOC of Belarus. It involves the publication of specialized literature, holding thematic meetings and discussions, distributing brochures, and other events. In the future, the NOC's representative office in the Vitebsk region intends to expand the geography of organizing Olympic corners and open them not only in educational institutions of the regional center but also in other districts of the region, Viktor Bynkov added. -0-
