The composition of the Vitebsk Regional Commission for the Election of the President of the Republic of Belarus has been determined

The Vitebsk Regional Election Commission includes representatives from 4 political parties and 7 public organizations, with two more commission members delegated by citizens. For the first time, labor collectives did not exercise their right to nominate representatives to the regional election commission. The first organizational meeting of the regional election commission will be held on May 21.

The personal composition of the regional territorial commission was determined on May 19 at a joint meeting of the regional executive committee and the presidium of the regional council of deputies with the participation of representatives of parties, other public associations, and citizens who nominated their representatives to the commission.

Preluding the procedure, the Chairman of the regional executive committee, Nikolai Sherstnev, emphasized that the election of the head of state is the main socio-political event for any country.

— By casting their vote for a particular candidate, Belarusian citizens determine the country's development path, their own future, and the future of their children, — noted the head of the region.

The formation of territorial election commissions is an important stage of the election campaign. They organize the elections, exercise control over compliance with electoral legislation in their territory, and must ensure the full implementation of the powers vested in them within the timeframe established by law.

The nomination of representatives to the territorial commissions concluded on May 17. 16 candidacies were proposed for the regional election commission, of which about 75% were representatives of parties and other public organizations.

By voting, it was determined that the regional election commission will consist of 13 members, which is the maximum permissible number for such bodies. As reported by the Chairman of the Regional Council of Deputies, Vladimir Terentyev, preliminary consultations on the personal composition of the commission were held with a number of public organizations, including political parties and local authorities. Personal characteristics were studied, taking into account participation in previous election campaigns and other political events. During a joint meeting, after discussing the provided information on the professional and personal qualities of the candidates, an open vote was held for each candidate.

As a result, representatives of the Communist Party of Belarus, the Liberal Democratic Party, the BNF Party, the Republican Party of Labour and Justice, as well as major public organizations such as "Belaya Rus", "BRSM", "Belarusian Women's Union", the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus, and a veterans' organization were elected to the regional election commission.

In total, 26 territorial election commissions will ensure the preparation and conduct of elections in the Vitebsk region, including 21 district commissions, a city commission in Novopolotsk, and 3 district commissions in Vitebsk. They will be formed no later than May 20.
