The optimization of prosecutor's offices will be carried out based on the interests of citizens

The optimization of prosecutor's offices will be carried out in the interests of citizens, emphasized the Prosecutor General of Belarus, Alexander Konyuk, at a meeting with the staff of OJSC "Glubokoye Dairy and Canned Goods Plant", as reported by a BELTA correspondent.

In 2013, the prosecutor's offices will undergo optimization of their activities and staffing. In particular, district prosecutor's offices in regional centers will be merged into a single city prosecutor's office. This primarily concerns Grodno and Vitebsk. Similar transformations involving the merger of city and district prosecutor's offices are planned for Polotsk, Orsha, Pinsk, and Baranovichi.

"All this will be done, first and foremost, for the convenience of ordinary citizens and will in no way affect the quality of work of the prosecutor's offices," emphasized Alexander Konyuk.

As the Prosecutor General noted, 2012-2013 are characterized by an active stage of judicial and legal reform. In this regard, the prosecutor's office is setting new priorities. "It is necessary to form public opinion that the prosecutor's office is not a punitive body. We are moving away from these functions. Currently, more emphasis is placed on assisting in resolving economic and legal issues. We will be increasingly involved in the economy," said the Prosecutor General.

At the same time, the prosecutor's office is not abandoning general supervision over the enforcement of legality. "However, this activity should be of a verification nature and in no case should it hinder people's work," emphasized Alexander Konyuk.
