The experience of the Vitebsk Red Cross in organizing assistance to the elderly will be extended to all regions

In the region, a project to assist the elderly is being successfully implemented. The most active participants of mini-projects, implemented by district organizations of the Belarusian Red Cross Society (BRCS), from among the elderly, help the sisters of mercy care for those more in need of assistance – disabled individuals, bedridden, who have completely or partially lost the ability to move and self-care. For example, in Dubrovno, the mini-project "Home Without Loneliness" united active participants of the elderly club. "This experience of self-organization of the elderly to help those in need, as well as teaching people self-help, needs to be implemented in other regions of the country," believes BRCS Secretary General Viktor Kolbanov.

February 3, Vitebsk /Sergey Kochetov - BELTA/. The experience of the Vitebsk regional organization of the Belarusian Red Cross Society (BRCS) in implementing projects to assist those in need will be generalized and disseminated in all regions of Belarus. This was announced today by BRCS Secretary General Viktor Kolbanov at a meeting of the Presidium of the regional BRCS organization, reports a BELTA correspondent.

In the region, a project to assist the elderly is being successfully implemented. The most active participants of mini-projects, implemented by district organizations of the BRCS, from among the elderly, help the sisters of mercy care for those more in need of assistance – disabled individuals, bedridden, who have completely or partially lost the ability to move and self-care. For example, in Dubrovno, the mini-project "Home Without Loneliness" united active participants of the elderly club. They organize concerts for the elderly from remote areas, and after the concerts, they provide household assistance and other services to those in need. In fact, elderly citizens become volunteers of the Red Cross and its active assistants. "This experience of self-organization of the elderly to help those in need, as well as teaching people self-help, needs to be implemented in other regions of the country," believes Viktor Kolbanov.

Also, the project to create an emergency rapid response team will be further developed in the region, which is a new area of activity for the BCRC. The Vitebsk organization is implementing a pilot project with the support of the Visaginas Committee of the Lithuanian Red Cross. A team of 12 volunteers has been created in the region, who are undergoing training, including with the participation of Lithuanian colleagues. "Volunteers are preparing to work not in the epicenter of the emergency, but in the so-called green zone, where the victims need vital support," explained Viktor Kolbanov.

In addition, the BCRC plans to develop and strengthen the mercy sister service. The promotion of humanitarian values will remain an important area of activity. "This key direction is a tool for educating youth and attracting volunteers to our ranks, without whom our activities are unthinkable," added Viktor Kolbanov.-0-
