The organizing committee for the celebration of the 73rd anniversary of the Great Victory announced the main mass events in the Vitebsk region

On the eve of May 9, the regional executive committee hosted an organizing committee meeting for the celebration of the 73rd anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

The working meeting was attended by the Chairman of the Regional Council of Deputies, Vladimir Terentyev, Deputy Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee, Vladimir Penin, Deputy Chairman of the City Executive Committee, Petr Podgursky, heads of law enforcement agencies, and veteran organizations.

Already on May 4, the first mass event will take place – a festival dedicated to the 74th anniversary of the breakthrough of the enemy blockade by partisans of the Polotsk-Lepel zone in the Ushachi district during the Great Patriotic War – "Dedicated to the Courage and Resilience of the Belarusian People!".

On May 7, a ceremonial reception of veterans will be held at the Vitebsk City Executive Committee. On May 8, a reception for veterans will be held at the Regional Executive Committee. On the same day, at the "Vitebsk" concert hall, there will be a solemn assembly with the participation of the regional and city leadership, and a festive concert.

May 9 will feature a procession, laying wreaths and flowers at the monument to Soviet soldiers, partisans, and underground fighters of the Vitebsk region on Victory Square, a rally, followed by laying flowers at the bust of Hero of the Soviet Union, Hero of Socialist Labor P. M. Masherov, and in the evening – a festive salute. Following a good tradition, participants of the republican campaign "Belarus Remembers" will march in columns with portraits of their relatives or famous people who liberated Belarus.

On May 11, the reburial of Soviet soldiers is planned in the village of Vysokchany, Liozno district. This was reported, in particular, by Vladimir Terentyev. Vladimir Vladimirovich noted that on the eve of Victory Day, it was necessary to tidy up more than 1300 military graves, as well as to take care of (conduct medical examinations, check living conditions) veterans living in the Vitebsk region. Currently, there are 1184 such individuals, including 166 disabled veterans of the Great Patriotic War and 581 participants in combat operations. Representatives of authorities and the public will visit those who, due to health reasons, cannot participate in the festivities and will personally congratulate them on May 9.

— There has always been a special, reverent attitude towards veterans after the war, so we must reach every one of them — without exception, — emphasized Vladimir Terentyev.
