Orsha police stopped the smuggling of alcoholic beverages and coffee

Оршанская милиция пресекла контрабанду спиртных напитков и кофе

Three detentions of illegal cargo occurred on the Brest - Moscow highway in just one day. They were carried out by State Automobile Inspectorate officers with colleagues from the Department for Combating Economic Crimes of the Orsha District Department of Internal Affairs.

In the first case, they discovered that under the cover of night, an unemployed resident of Orsha in a BMW X5 was transporting over 270 liters of whiskey, rum, and other strong alcoholic beverages not marked with Belarusian excise stamps. He was stopped near the village of Vysokoye. The alcohol, valued at almost 100 million rubles, was seized.

A similar procedure awaited a resident of the Minsk region, whose Volkswagen Transporter was stopped by law enforcement officers near the village of Obukhovo. Over 1300 liters of smuggled alcohol were hidden in the ceiling compartment of the minivan. Another night operation also yielded a significant catch. Near the village of Korobishche, police attention was drawn to an Iveco vehicle. More precisely, to 180 packages of coffee, valued at over 30 million rubles, which a 26-year-old individual entrepreneur from the capital had brought into our country from Russia without accompanying documents.

The increased seizures of illegal cargo were explained by the head of the Information and Public Relations Department of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee's Department of Internal Affairs, Andrey Semenikhin, as a result of intensified efforts to combat smuggling at the Belarusian-Russian border. Investigations are currently underway into all the aforementioned incidents.
