The Orsha Linen Mill has signed a contract for the supply of fabrics to India

Orsha Linen Mill signed a contract for the supply of fabrics to India, as reported by the Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus, Mikhail Myasnikovich, on the program "World Picture" on the TV channel "RTR-Belarus".

During the Belarusian-Indian business forum, which took place in Delhi, a number of joint agreements and contracts were signed. In particular, Orsha Linen Mill signed its first contract for the supply of linen fabrics. "It would seem that India is a country famous for its textiles. Nevertheless, they are interested in importing Belarusian linen fabrics," said Mikhail Myasnikovich.

It was announced on the air of the TV channel that the contract was concluded for $1 million. The parties also agreed on the organization of joint production of BelAZ trucks. The Indian side, together with the Belarusian Automobile Plant, intends to produce large-tonnage quarry trucks and sell them on the domestic market and, possibly, in third countries. Several prototypes of quarry trucks with a carrying capacity of 200-220 tons have already been created. The plans also include the creation of a Belarusian-Indian tractor. "We have actually agreed that work on the supply of tire products to India will be intensified. They were particularly interested in super-large tires. India mines a lot of ore and coal," said Mikhail Myasnikovich. "For them, the issue of tire products for large-sized equipment is extremely relevant."

"A wish was also expressed, which I consider fair, that we need to intensify cooperation in the financial and banking spheres," noted the Chairman of the Council of the Republic. As reported earlier, a free trade regime may be established between the EAEU and India. According to Mikhail Myasnikovich, involving India in a free trade zone with the EAEU has both advantages and certain restraining factors.

"We understand that the free entry of Indian goods into the Eurasian market is, to a certain extent, additional competition for our producers. At the same time, the signing of this agreement opens up huge opportunities for Belarusian producers," he said. The population of India is just under 1300 million people. The purchasing power of both the population and legal entities is constantly growing. India's economy grew by 7.4% last year.

Speaking about why foreign countries are showing business interest in Belarus, Mikhail Myasnikovich noted several advantages of the republic. In particular, these are integrity in relationships, a high intellectual and professional level, as well as a favorable geographical location. The Belarusian parliamentary delegation visited India on an official visit from May 10-14. In particular, a meeting was held between the head of the Council of the Republic and the President of India and the Chairman of the upper house of the Indian parliament. The Belarusian-Indian business forum was held in Delhi.
