Orsha police officer forced to defend himself with a weapon against a drunk hooligan with a chainsaw

An Orsha police officer used a firearm to defend himself against a drunken rowdy with a running chainsaw, the Orsha District Department of Internal Affairs told the BELTA correspondent. The Orsha District Department of Internal Affairs received a call from a local resident the previous evening stating that her drunken husband had caused a scandal at home and kicked their minor children out onto the street. Police officers who arrived at the scene of the domestic dispute offered the enraged father to go to the department for further investigation. Instead, the man took a chainsaw, started it, and, threatening to kill, headed towards the police officers. He did not respond to the law enforcement officers' demands to stop his illegal actions and the warning about the possible use of firearms. The investigator of the investigative department of the preliminary investigation department of the district department of internal affairs fired four shots into the air. While retreating from the rowdy with the chainsaw, the police officer fell, and the man raised the running tool over him. Due to the real threat to his life, the law enforcement officer was forced to fire aimed shots at the attacker. The rowdy was taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds. According to the preliminary assessment of the Orsha District Prosecutor's Office, the actions of the police officers were recognized as lawful. According to the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Regional Executive Committee, in the first five months of the current year, 1,255 out of 7.4 thousand crimes in the region were committed while intoxicated. -0-
