Orsha residents are organizing a water expedition in honor of the 80th anniversary of Vladimir Korotkevich's birth

July 16, Vitebsk /Olga Bogacheva - BELTA/. The water expedition "With Uladzimir Karatkevich from Orsha to Rogachev," dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the birth of the famous writer, will start on July 20 in Orsha. This was reported to a BELTA correspondent by the Museum Complex of History and Culture of Orsha Region. The initiators of the event were Orsha fans of Karatkevich's work, their fellow countryman. The idea found support from the city authorities, the city museums, the Center for Children's and Youth Tourism, Local Lore and Excursions of Orsha. Thus, a group of 10 volunteers was formed, and anyone can join it, the museum noted. On July 20, the expedition participants will lay flowers at the monument to Uladzimir Karatkevich, read their favorite works by this author, and solemnly, accompanied by the city's public, proceed with the coat of arms of Orsha to the Dnieper embankment, where they will release an inscription "Karatkevich - 80" made of balloons into the sky. The Orsha residents will conquer the river on catamarans. During six days, they will have to cover 230 km by water. The travelers' stops are planned in Levki, Mogilev, Barcolabovo, Bykhov, and Rogachev. In each of these settlements, participants will hold literary meetings with the creative intelligentsia and youth. Uladzimir Karatkevich was the first Belarusian writer to work in the historical detective genre. For the novel "Chorny zamak Alshanski," he was awarded the Yakub Kolas State Prize of the BSSR. He is a laureate of the Ivan Melezh Literary Prize of the Belarusian Writers' Union for the novel "Nelga zabuts," and was awarded the Order of Friendship of Peoples. The author's works are distinguished by vivid imagery and a captivating, dynamic plot. Many of them are included in the school curriculum ("Kalasy pad syarpom tvaim," "Dzikaye palyavanne karalya Stakha," "Khrystos pryzyamliysya v Grodni," "Sivaya lehenda"), and many have found a second life in cinema.
