Orsha and Polotsk will be merged with their districts

The cities of Orsha and Polotsk will be merged with their districts. The corresponding decree No. 27 "On the merger of districts and cities of regional subordination of the Republic of Belarus having a common administrative center" was signed by the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko on January 14, BELTA was informed by the press service of the head of state.

The document provides for the merger of the Orsha district and Orsha, the Polotsk district and Polotsk, in order to improve the system of public administration and ensure the comprehensive development of basic territorial administrative-territorial units.

The prerequisites for such a merger have developed over the past few years. Thus, in order to improve the management of various spheres of public life support, common institutions for the district and the city in healthcare, ecology, communications, military commissariats, regional units of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, courts, notary offices and other services have been merged into one organization.

The concentration of material and financial resources will make it possible to more effectively solve the issues of rural development, improve the conditions for the activities of economic entities, and also to more promptly and comprehensively address the issues of socio-economic development of the merged cities and districts. This will also allow for the optimization of management processes, reduce the costs of maintaining management personnel, and ensure the same level of accessibility of social infrastructure for residents of the city and the countryside.
