The remains of five soldiers were reburied in the Liozno district
A solemn reburial ceremony for Soviet soldiers took place today in the Liozno district, as reported by the district executive committee.
The remains of five individuals were discovered last summer during excavations conducted between the Gankovo tract and the village of Kozhekino. This location was previously indicated by one of the oldest local residents, who also helped identify the name of one of the soldiers – Senior Lieutenant of the Medical Service Ivan Fyodorovich Muratov, a native of the village of Ankudinovka, Nizhny Novgorod region, Russia, who served in the 97th Rifle Division. This information was confirmed during the process of identifying the fallen soldiers. The remains of the other soldiers could not be identified.
The solemn reburial ceremony took place at the military cemetery near the agro-town of Krynki, where nearly 5,000 soldiers who died during the Great Patriotic War while liberating the Liozno district are buried. The memorial rally was attended by the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Council of Deputies Vladimir Terentyev, representatives of local authorities, residents of the district, schoolchildren, and youth. In total, there are 88 military burial sites in the Liozno district, containing the remains of 31.9 thousand Soviet soldiers.
