A unit for the rehabilitation of young wheelchair users has been established for the first time in the Vitebsk region

June 10, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. A social rehabilitation department for young disabled people has been established at the Vitebsk Regional Territorial Center for Social Services for Veterans and Disabled People, Mikhail Leshchinsky, Chairman of the Committee for Labor, Employment and Social Protection of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, told a BELTA correspondent. The round-the-clock departments are designed to assist wheelchair users and visually impaired people. Conditions for their unimpeded movement have been created, and special classrooms, offices, and gyms have been equipped. According to Mikhail Leshchinsky, the primary group consists of young people who have been diagnosed with a disability for the first time. They are in dire need of psychological support and are given the opportunity for social integration. The first 400 patients from all regions of the oblast are undergoing rehabilitation. Approximately 4,000 young disabled people are registered at territorial social service centers. Day care departments are being created for them, where they are trained in labor skills and receive correctional assistance. Currently, there are 6 day care departments for disabled people operating in the oblast, but by the end of the year, they will be established at all territorial centers. Labor workshops are being developed in the oblast, where disabled people engage in feasible work. For example, the Glubokoye Territorial Center operates greenhouses for growing seedlings, and students of the day care department at the Verkhnedvinsk Center learn to make and produce carpentry and sewing products. Funds from the presidential program "Children of Belarus" in the amount of Br679.1 million, as well as funds from local budgets and charitable organizations, are directed towards the organization of this work. -0-
