A day care center for the elderly was opened in the Vitebsk region

Pensioners from the agro-town of Shapechino and nearby settlements have received a unique opportunity to spend their time interestingly, making their leisure time not only pleasant but also useful thanks to the day care center for the elderly that recently opened in the building of the rural House of Culture.

Several rooms have been renovated and specially equipped so that representatives of the older generation can receive consultative and informational, social and domestic, medical, pedagogical, psychological services, and, of course, new knowledge, develop their creative and physical abilities, and communicate with their peers in one place.

The center offers clubs for knitting, embroidery, making souvenir dolls, and crafts from straw. In floristry classes, experienced teachers teach how to create bouquets and panels from dried flowers, topiaries, grow flower seedlings, and cultivate houseplants. In the new social institution, the elderly can improve and strengthen their health with the help of rhythmic and breathing exercises, various massagers, and workouts on exercise machines. Pensioners will also be helped to fill knowledge gaps in modern technologies: they will be taught how to use a computer, social networks, and search engines on the internet.

– As practice has shown, this form of work is in high demand among villagers. The newly opened day care center for the elderly in Shapechino is the second one in the district. A similar center in the agro-town of Zaronovo operates effectively and successfully, and in the current half-year, we also plan to open another one in Yanovichi, – said Leonid Kovalev, Director of the Territorial Center for Social Services of the Population of the Vitebsk District.
