A 24-hour care unit for the elderly will open in October in the Horadok district

September 20, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. A round-the-clock care unit for lonely elderly people and disabled people will open in October in the Horadok district of the Vitebsk region. This was reported to a BELTA correspondent by Natalia Beresneva, director of the Territorial Center for Social Services for the Population (TCSOP) of the Horadok district. The decision to create the unit on the basis of the former hospital in the village of Smolovka was made last year. Br190 million was allocated from the local budget for its renovation and equipment. Twenty elderly residents of the district living in remote and sparsely populated villages have already expressed their desire to reside in the unit during the inter-season period. In total, 30 people will be able to stay here simultaneously. They will be cared for by 10 full-time employees, as well as by workers of the paramedic and obstetric station located in the same building. The opening of the round-the-clock care unit is aimed at providing assistance and regular care for lonely elderly people, noted Natalia Beresneva, adding that a special residential building for lonely pensioners and disabled people operates in Horadok, which currently houses 86 people. The need for further development of this system in the district will be considered based on the results of the unit's operation in 2010-2011. In total, in the Vitebsk region, 16 round-the-clock care units operate under 27 TCSOPs, housing more than 500 people. The last of them was opened in April in the Sennensky district. -0-
