The open republican trampoline competitions in memory of Valery Vagel were held in Vitebsk
Our countryman Valery Vagel was involved in training high-class trampolinists for 38 years, and headed the national team of Belarus for 18 years. Among his trainees is a galaxy of winners of republican and international competitions, including European and World Championships, and participants in the Olympic Games.
He passed away in 2014, remaining in the memory of his colleagues as a top-class professional, a purposeful and energetic mentor who actively used a creative approach in working with young talents.
The opening ceremony of the tournament was attended by the Chairman of the Regional Council of Deputies, Vladimir Terentyev, who oversees this sport in the Vitebsk region.
— The current year has been difficult for athletes. Due to the pandemic, a World Cup stage and the European Championship were canceled, and the Olympic Games were postponed. At these starts, Belarusian athletes could have won more than one set of medals, including gold medals, — said Vladimir Vladimirovich. — I would like to note that today our regional center can confidently be called not only the capital of republican trampoline, but also of world trampoline. A modern Trampoline Jumping Center has been built in the city, which allows for the most prestigious competitions.
The strongest trampolinists of the country came to the competition, including Olympic champion Vladislav Goncharov. They competed for the top spots in two disciplines — individual and synchronized jumps. In the first discipline, athletes were divided into two groups — candidates and masters of sports. As expected, representatives of the region won the majority of gold awards. Among the candidates for master of sports, the first place went to Maria Semenova, among the masters of sports — to Maria Sergeeva and Oleg Ryabtsev. In synchronized jumps, the leading positions were taken by the pairs Ksenia Semenova — Elizaveta Sharay and Nikita Fomchenko — Matvey Orlov.
