A monument to Alexander Nevsky will be erected in Vitebsk
A monument to Prince Alexander Nevsky will be erected in Vitebsk within the next two years. This was announced by the Chairman of the Vitebsk City Executive Committee, Viktor Nikolaikin, at a meeting of the regional executive committee, which, among other things, considered issues of implementing the State Program for Tourism Development in the Vitebsk region.
The Vitebsk mayor emphasized that to increase the city's tourist attractiveness, several conditions must be met, the first of which is the presence of interesting objects from this point of view. "We are working on the restoration of historical and cultural heritage – the recreated Assumption Cathedral and the Resurrection Church have become a real adornment of the city. Last year, a monument to the founder of Vitebsk castles, Prince Algirdas, was erected. Work is underway to erect a monument to the commander Prince Alexander Nevsky. If not this year, then next year, the monument will definitely appear in Vitebsk and become another tourist attraction," the mayor of Vitebsk is convinced.
At the request of a correspondent, Viktor Nikolaikin clarified the location of the monument – the monument will be installed on a pedestal near the Annunciation Church on the banks of the Dvina River.
The Chairman of the City Executive Committee also noted that this year the reconstruction of the building on Pravdy Street, where a museum of the history of the folk art school will be created, should be completed. As for the project to create a whole complex dedicated to Marc Chagall on Pokrovskaya Street, the project implementation has not yet begun due to the lack of an investor and the significant investment amounts.
Continuing the topic of tourist attractiveness, the mayor noted two more important factors – service (accommodation conditions, catering, and leisure organization), as well as advertising (accessibility and variety of information about the city and its tourist opportunities). Work in these areas is also underway in the city, Viktor Nikolaikin assured.
