The monument to the blessed Peter and Fevronia will be unveiled in the village of Sarya, steeped in romantic legends
July 5, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA/. A monument to the blessed Peter and Fevronia of Murom will be unveiled on July 8, on the Day of Family, Love and Fidelity, in the village of Sarya, Verkhnedvinsk district, the Polotsk and Glubokoye diocese informed the correspondent.
For the first time in Belarus, a monument to the couple, whom Orthodox Christians consider the patrons of family happiness, marital love and fidelity, will be erected. The unveiling of the monument will be one of the events of the holiday dedicated to the family. It is organized by the Polotsk and Glubokoye diocese and the Verkhnedvinsk district executive committee. According to the organizers' plan, it is designed to draw public attention to issues of family and marriage, and to show the unique role of the family in personality formation.
Along with the monument to the blessed couple, an icon with particles of the relics of the holy blessed princes Peter and Fevronia of Murom will appear in the Sarya Church of the Assumption of the Most Holy Theotokos. It was painted in the icon-painting workshops of the Spaso-Yefrosinievsky Monastery, and the relics of the saints were brought from Murom. The Day of Family will conclude with an informational and educational conference "Saints Peter and Fevronia: Our True Love".
It is worth noting that the village of Sarya was not chosen by chance as the venue for the family celebration. In the early 19th century, the local landowner Ignat Lopata, in memory of his beloved wife Maria, who died early, built a beautiful church in the neo-Gothic style, which decades later became the Church of the Assumption of the Most Holy Theotokos.
The diocese and the Verkhnedvinsk district executive committee intend to make the celebration of the Day of Family, Love and Fidelity traditional. By next year, the holiday will have its own symbolism, as well as an anthem dedicated to the family. The organizers plan to announce a competition for their creation.
On July 8, the Orthodox Church celebrates the day of remembrance of the holy blessed princes Peter and Fevronia of Murom. The holy relics of the couple rest in the Holy Trinity Monastery in the city of Murom. Childless couples come to venerate them in the hope of having a child, and unmarried girls pray for the bestowal of good and pious husbands.-0-
