Monument to the Easter egg will be opened in Postavy district
April 6, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. A monument to the Easter egg will be unveiled on April 24 in the folklore and mythological complex "Azyarki" in the Postavy district. Egor Shushkevich, director of the "Center for Tourist Services," told a BELTA correspondent about this.
An enlarged concrete replica of the traditional Easter symbol, painted and scaled up to the size of a park sculpture, will stand on a pedestal. The total height will be about 2 meters. The author and executor of the project is a local artist. The first to see the monument to the Easter egg will be the participants of the tour "Easter Traditions of Postavy Lake District." The unique route tells about the specifics of celebrating the Resurrection of Christ in the region, where Orthodox and Catholics live side by side in peace and harmony, and where Western and Eastern customs are closely intertwined.
Since ancient times, the egg has been considered a symbol of the universe, life, rebirth, and fertility. It is not by chance that the Christian tradition adopted it as the main attribute of the greatest holiday - Easter. Monuments to the Easter egg have been erected in Russia and Canada, but most of them are in Ukraine. In Belarus, before the appearance of the Postavy Easter egg, there were no similar monuments. However, in Soligorsk, a local poultry farm erected a sculpture in honor of the chicken egg as a symbol of food. -0-
