A monument to the defenders of the Motherland will be unveiled in Lepel on May 9, Igor Urban, head of the ideological work department of the Lepel District Executive Committee, told a BELTA correspondent. According to him, it will be a meter-high monument with a BTR combat vehicle installed on it and the inscription "In memory of soldiers who honorably fulfilled the sacred duty of defending the Motherland." The monument will be located near the military enlistment office. Nearby are two other monuments dedicated to internationalist soldiers and those who died during the Great Patriotic War. Thus, a kind of triangle of military glory has been formed in Lepel, where residents and guests of the district center can honor the memory of combatants, Igor Urban said. On Victory Day, festive events in Lepel will begin with the unveiling of the monument to the defenders of the Motherland, and a rally will be held here with the participation of representatives of the authorities, veterans and war participants, and local residents. A military parade will be organized, after which performances by amateur art groups of the district will begin, folk festivals, and festive trade will unfold. -0-
