A memorial sign to internationalist soldiers will be unveiled on July 23 in the Lepel district
July 20, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. A memorial sign to internationalist soldiers will be unveiled on July 23 in the Lepel district, the head of the ideological work department of the Lepel district executive committee, Igor Urban, told a BELTA correspondent.
The stele, installed on a pedestal in the village of Borovka, is a vertical tombstone 1.2 m high and 60 cm wide, with an image of an armored personnel carrier column accompanied by two helicopters against a mountain background on its front side. In the foreground, there is a Kalashnikov rifle, a panama hat, and the inscription "To fellow countrymen-internationalists". Representatives of local authorities, youth, and members of the district and regional organization of the Belarusian Union of Veterans of the War in Afghanistan will take part in the opening of the monument.
As Igor Urban noted, this memorial will be the third memorial sign in memory of internationalist soldiers opened in the Lepel district in the last three years. Thus, steles in memory of the feat of military personnel are located in the village of Zaslonovo and near the district military enlistment office.
The Lepel district organization of Afghan war veterans has 96 members, and a total of 180 internationalist soldiers living in the district are registered in it. "This is a living organization that makes a significant contribution to the public life of the Lepel region," the interlocutor emphasized. He noted that the opening of the memorial sign is important for these people and the relatives of the fallen, as a tribute to those who did not return from local conflicts. This work also plays a significant role in fostering civic consciousness, courage, and patriotism in the younger generations.-0-
