Partisan dugouts will appear in Vitebsk for the city's holiday
June 23, Vitebsk / Sergey Kochetov - BELTA /. An Alley of Partisan Glory will appear in the park of the regional museum of Hero of the Soviet Union Minay Shmyrev in Vitebsk by City Day, which will be celebrated on June 25. The director of the museum institution, Irina Shishkova, told a BELTA correspondent about this.
The alley is designed as an open-air exhibition recreation, recreating a partisan camp during the Great Patriotic War. Four dugouts have been erected in the center of the alley, each with its own functional purpose - headquarters, armory, living quarters, and medical. Partisan household items from the museum's collections were used in the design of the structures. The dugouts are designed according to original blueprints from 1942-1943 from the publication of that time "Partisan's Companion," which is kept in the museum. The exhibition will be complemented by the most characteristic elements of a partisan camp organization, including a tent, campfires, a cart as the most common means of transporting the wounded to aircraft for evacuation to the mainland, as well as a trench as one of the types of defensive fortifications. A railway platform of the 1940s is also installed here, which will help guides talk about the rail war waged by the partisans.
As a result, the exposition of the museum and the park should represent a single memorial complex dedicated to the partisan movement. Visitors will be able to more fully feel the spirit of the time, and such a complex will allow for a higher level demonstration of the significance of the feat of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War, using the example of the participation of Vitebsk natives in combat operations, Irina Shishkova emphasized. Veterans of the Great Patriotic War and students are invited to the grand opening of the Alley of Partisan Glory, for whom a theatrical performance will be staged.
The memorial museum of partisan commander of the brigade, Hero of the Soviet Union Minay Filippovich Shmyrev (partisan pseudonym Batka Minay), was opened on July 5, 1969, during the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders. It includes four exhibition halls dedicated to various stages of the life of the legendary partisan brigade commander, as well as a park with an area of about 0.5 hectares. The museum's collections contain about 9,000 items. A sculptural bust of Minay Shmyrev by People's Artist of the USSR Zair Azgur is installed on the park grounds, and an oak alley planted by former participants of the partisan movement is located there. The museum building was built at the turn of the 19th-20th centuries. -0-
