The patriotic event 'Let's be worthy of the feat!' is taking place in the Chashniki district
May 4, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. The patriotic event "Let's be worthy of the feat!" is taking place today in the Chashniki district, the head of the ideological work department of the Chashniki District Executive Committee, Tatyana Pchelka, told a BELTA correspondent.
Veterans, schoolchildren, BRSM activists, representatives of labor collectives and local authorities are participating in the event - about 70 people in total. Today they will visit memorable places and military burials: the "Vishenki" memorial complex in memory of the burned residents of the district, the burial of unknown soldiers and partisans near Novolukoml, and a mass grave in the village of Chereya. These are places where the fiercest battles for the liberation of the district took place, the interlocutor noted.
The final point of the route is the civilian cemetery in the village of Zaboenye, where the grave of partisan scout Vladimir Dirko is located. Today, a memorial sign will be erected here, and participants of the event, together with the population, will honor the memory of the fallen hero with a minute of silence.
The "Let's be worthy of the feat!" event is designed to remind all residents of the district of the value of Victory, which cost thousands of lives. Over 12,000 local residents and Red Army soldiers died during the liberation of the Chashniki district alone, and more than a dozen villages were burned down by the invaders along with their inhabitants. About 60 military burials and 102 memorable places serve as a constant reminder of the wounds inflicted during the war years.
In anticipation of the 65th anniversary of the Victory, other festive events will be held in the district, Tatyana Pchelka added. Thus, congratulations to veterans at home began today, the Presidential Orchestra will give a concert on May 8, and on the eve of the holiday, a rally-requiem "The Tale of the Great Victory" will be held in the district center with a theatrical performance, folk festivals and numerous concerts organized by local creative groups. -0-
