The printing press in Polotsk has become an art object
The printing press in Polotsk has become an art object, reported Sergey Solovey, Deputy Director of RUPP "Nasledie F. Skoriny".
An interesting idea was implemented by the staff of the Polotsk printing enterprise: at the entrance to the printing house building, an unusual object attracts the attention of passers-by – a platen press.
This equipment was used in the Polotsk printing house from 1950 to 2011. The press was used for printing text, forms, and other products and was decommissioned due to production modernization and changes in the technological process. But due to its production merits, the platen press was not sent for scrap but turned into a kind of historical art object.
"Moreover, despite its age, the press is still in working condition. However, random passers-by will not be able to print anything on it. This requires additional parts, and the process itself is unsafe without knowledge of the technology. This equipment can give an idea of how printing worked a couple of decades ago. A similar press is in the funds of the Museum of Belarusian Book Printing," noted Sergey Solovey.
In September of this year, a new digital printing machine was launched at the enterprise. It was purchased with funds from the republican innovation fund and is mainly used for printing cheaper full-color products and sample labels. The step-by-step modernization of the printing house will continue next year.
