Svetlana Rumyantseva, a Belarusian language and literature teacher from Novopolotsk, became "Teacher of the Year - 2017" of Belarus.

The winner of the republican professional skills competition "Teacher of the Year - 2017" was announced in Minsk. The best educator was determined based on the results of the superfinal, which took place in the capital on September 27.

The finalists of the competition were congratulated and the winner was announced by the Minister of Education, Igor Karpenko. Speaking about the need to implement conceptual approaches, which were discussed at the recent Republican Pedagogical Council, the minister noted that the "Teacher of the Year of Belarus" competition is another step in the implementation of what has been planned. "Whatever plans or programs we adopt, whatever good textbooks we write, without a teacher, without a teacher with a capital 'T', without a person who can lead children, nothing will happen," the minister said.

The solemn award ceremony was attended by the First Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration, Maksim Ryzhenkov, and the Deputy Prime Minister, Vasily Zharko. The finalists of the competition - 56 best educators from all regions of Belarus - were awarded by the Ministry of Education.

The winners of the subject nominations were awarded the badge "Excellent Student of Education", while the rest were awarded diplomas from the Ministry of Education. More than 30 thousand teachers took part in the professional skills competition "Teacher of the Year of Belarus". The main changes this year concerned the competition nominations. There are now eight of them. The in-person stage of the final was held in the form of an open demonstration lesson. The finalist teachers gave a master class and conducted a lesson on the proposed topic in front of an unfamiliar audience.

In the superfinal, eight winners of the subject nominations competed for the title of the best. They took part in three competitions, based on the results of which the best were determined. The first test for the teachers was an open mini-lesson, where the finalists of this competition were presented as students. Each superfinalist conducted a 20-minute lesson, tried to show all their pedagogical skills, and present themselves as a professional and a personality. The second test was a kind of press conference, during which the jury asked each participant two questions. The answers to them demonstrated the pedagogical erudition of each contestant, their psychological and pedagogical level, and their ability to react quickly. At the third stage of the superfinal, each participant acted as a speaker. The topic of the speech was "Teacher yesterday, today, tomorrow". It is very important for a teacher not only to know how pedagogical science and educational practice have developed, but also to be able to see the teacher of the future. The jury of the competition included the heads of the jury of all subject nominations, as well as scientists, educators, psychologists, and the best teachers of previous years. A children's jury also determined the best.
