Mobile pulmoscans examine residents of Belarus during the anti-tuberculosis campaign "White Chamomile"
March 21, Minsk /Elena Prus - BELTA/. The republican preventive campaign "White Daisy" will start in Belarus on March 24, on World Tuberculosis Day. This was reported to BELTA correspondent by Irina Karanchuk, chief specialist for media and public relations of the Belarusian Red Cross Society (BRCS).
The campaign is organized by the BRCS within the framework of the information campaign "I Can Stop Tuberculosis!", funded by a grant from the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria for the implementation of the project "Support for the State Program 'Tuberculosis' in the Republic of Belarus". This project is implemented by the UNDP in cooperation with the Ministry of Health.
The aim of the campaign is to draw people's attention to the problem of tuberculosis and to detect new cases of the disease. On March 24, mobile pulmonoscans will be brought to the central squares of more than 30 Belarusian cities. Those who wish will be able to undergo a free fluorographic examination.
For example, in Minsk, a mobile pulmonoscan will be located on the square near Komarovsky Market (V. Khoruzhey St., 8), as well as near the Pobeda cinema (Internatsionalnaya St., 20). Fluorography, one of the methods of X-ray examination, is used for the early detection of tuberculosis. Since a person comes into contact with Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the causative agents of tuberculosis, several times throughout their life, fluorography is widely used for preventive examination of the population.
On March 24, as part of the campaign, a free screening of the feature film "Ask the Dust" will take place in six cinemas in regional cities. It will be shown in the Pobeda cinema in Minsk, the Mir cinema in Brest (starting at 6:00 PM), the Dom Kino in Vitebsk (3:30 PM), the Kalinin cinema in Gomel (4:00 PM), the Kosmos cinema in Grodno, and the Rodina cinema in Mogilev (at 3:00 PM).
The film "Ask the Dust" (USA, 2006, directed by Robert Towne) is a thrilling romantic drama based on the bestseller of the same name by John Fante, a classic of 20th-century American literature. Arturo Bandini (Colin Farrell), a young and talented writer, comes to Los Angeles to seek fame, but for a month now he has not left his cheap furnished rooms in a hotel, suffering from creative depression. He decides to spend his last money on a cup of coffee and meets a beautiful Mexican woman, a waitress named Camilla (Salma Hayek), in a local bar. Arturo and Camilla spend their time in constant clashes, but one day they realize they cannot live without each other. However, soon Arturo learns that Camilla is ill... This is a touching story about two people, lost like grains of sand in the flow of time, but who managed to understand why they live in the short time allotted to them. Tom Cruise served as the film's producer.
In addition, before the screening of this film, viewers will be presented with a social informational and preventive film about tuberculosis, "Journey" (Netherlands). -0-
