Переиздание «Тараса на Парнасе», юбилей Мавра и чай «Бацькаўшчына» — что готовит День белорусской письменности
Reprint of "Taras on Parnassus", Yanka Mavr's anniversary and "Batskaushchyna" tea: what the anniversary Belarusian Written Language Day in Horadok has in store for guests

The main event of the domestic book world – the XXX Belarusian Written Language Day this season promises great discoveries. Firstly, geographical. Well, when else will there be an occasion to visit Horadok, the small homeland of the author of "Taras on Parnassus", Kanstantsin Verenitsyn? Secondly, readers will be met with scientific discoveries. Dozens of publications dedicated to little-known pages of Belarusian history, each domestic publisher has prepared something special for the holiday. And thirdly, Horadok will welcome guests with artistic discoveries. New sculptural compositions and a mural with the coats of arms and names of all cities that have hosted the Written Language Day are already ready to become a backdrop for cool selfies. But, most importantly, only here, in two days, you can stock up on reading material for the whole year.

Anniversary after anniversary

Horadok is the fifth center of the Belarusian Written Language Day in the Vitebsk region in 30 years. Previously, it was hosted three times by the homeland of the first printer, Francysk Skaryna – dr

Polotsk, and once each – Glubokoye, Postavy, and Orsha. In the jubilee year, the personality of Konstantin Verenitsyn will be reflected in almost every festive event. His "Taras on Parnassus" was considered anonymous for many years – a sensational discovery made by literary critic Gennady Kiselyov only in 1973. On Saturday, September 2, Verenitsyn will be praised in the city square. At 11:00, the festival of folk art, poetry, and folklore "Haradotski Parnas" will begin here. The program is substantial – from a collective reading event of "Taras on Parnassus" and literary

about the marathon "Veranitsyna Star" to the awarding of the "Zemlyak of the Year of Horodok Region" prize.

But, besides Verenitsyn, the Vitebsk land has given the world of book publishing many glorious names, notes the Deputy Minister of Information of Belarus Igor Buzovsky:

— Let's remember everyone! First of all, however, I want to note that 30 years is a date that already allows us to summarize some results, to summarize the work of various sectors of book publishing and book distribution. In our country, attention is paid to books not in words, but in deeds.
For all these 30 years, the Head of State has supported writers and poets, as evidenced even by our foreign guests who come to the Minsk International Book Fair, among other events. They all emphasize the unique attitude towards books in Belarus – and these are not just pompous words.Another important date of this year's celebration is the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Horadok from Nazi invaders.

— We could not ignore such a date, especially in the Year of Peace and Creation, — adds Igor Ivanovich. — This theme will be reflected both in the concert numbers of the opening and closing ceremonies of the Day of Writing, and in the events that will be held on the surrounding stage areas.

Director of "Mastatskaya Lіtaratura" publishing house Alexander Badak reminds of another major anniversary of 2023 – the 140th anniversary of the birth of the classic of Belarusian literature Yanka Mavr:

— We are presenting two publications at once: "Yanka Mavr. Novellas. Short stories" and "Yakub Kolas. Selected works in 2 volumes". The names of Mavr and Kolas are often mentioned together, and for good reason. Many know that the classics became related at one time: Yakub Kolas's son Mikhas married Yanka Mavr's daughter Natalia. Mavr and Kolas have common grandchildren and great-grandchildren, they actively participate in events, and I hope that readers will be able to meet them in Horadok.

In addition, every year "Mastatskaya Lіtaratura" publishes books related to the places where the festival is held. This year, a magnificent new edition was released – a reissue of "Taras on Parnassus".

— In addition to the poem itself (it is published both in the original and in the Russian translation by one of the best Russian translators, Mikhail Lozinsky), the collection also includes chapters from Gennady Kiselev's book about the authorship of the poem, the difficult search for historical truth, and the researcher's many years of dedication to the chosen topic, and the cultural ties of neighboring peoples. One of the sections of the publication is also dedicated to the Horadok Museum of Local Lore, which provided us with great support and materials.related to the fate of Konstantin Verenitsyn, — says Alexander Badak.

Tea Break

The Chairman of the Union of Writers of Belarus, Alexander Karliukevich, in turn, draws attention to one of the main book favorites of the anniversary Day of Belarusian Written Language — the photo album "From Vitebsk to Polotsk. A Journey Through Time" from the series "Bat'kaushchyna. In Search of the Lost". This is a joint historical and educational project of the Ministry of Information of Belarus and the well-known collector, laureate of the President's Prize "For Spiritual Revival" Vladimir Likhodedov.

— This photo album can be considered a virtual journey through time, — Alexander Nikolaevich is sure. — Vladimir Alekseevich's collection includes postcards from all regions of the Vitebsk region. They even feature places, towns, and estates that are little known to the general public. Now they are all gathered under one cover. This is truly unique material, itwill be useful for local historians and tour guides in their work, among others.

Vladimir Likhodedov himself, by the way, is also preparing to celebrate a kind of anniversary in Gorodok – the 20th anniversary of the "In Search of the Lost" project.

— It seems like I only recently started publishing in the pages of "SB", and 20 years have already passed, — reminisces Vladimir Alekseevich. — Therefore, in Gorodok, I will try to show everything that has been accomplished over these two decades. The book "From Vitebsk to Polotsk. A Journey Through Time" has indeed turned out to be significant. It presents every Vitebsk region (!), many photographs are published for the first time. Of course, some regions are represented more widely, and somewhere pre-revolutionary photographers were not seen at all. I am sure that the book will be a gift not only for the residents of the Vitebsk region, but also for the republic as a whole.

Over these years, Vladimir Alekseevich continues, he has published 50 books. All of them will be available to readers at the project stand. In addition, materials published by Likhodedov during 20 years of cooperation with "SB" will be shown on the big screen.

— The project has long gone beyond the scope of the newspaper and has begun to develop in completely different directions. One of them is "Drukarcki Dvor" with a printing press similar to the one on which Francysk Skaryna printed his Bible. We will definitely show the press, as well as the Bible recreated on it, to the visitors of the stand, — promises the collector.
And there will also be an opportunity to take a break for a tea break. Especially for the Day of Writing, a fragrant novelty will be presented at the stand – "Batskaushchyna" tea, it will give the project a special flavor and will soon be sold throughout the country.
Another special gift for every guest is the "Batskaushchyna time ribbon," which can be tied to the arm or used to decorate a car. After all, it is a symbol of the consolidation of all concerned Belarusians, draws attention to the Deputy Minister of Information Igor Buzovsky:

— We wanted to come up with something that would attract attention, become a kind of identifying mark. Such a ribbon as a souvenir will be distributed to everyone who wishes. On the eve of the event, it will be consecrated in a church in Kopyś, the President's birthplace. The ribbon is based on a national ornament that our grandmothers used in their embroidery and which later adorned the State Flag of Belarus. Thus, we emphasized the connection between the past, present, and future.

The opening ceremony of the XXX Day of Belarusian Writing will take place on September 2 at 8:00 PM. The names of the winners of the National Literary Prize will be announced there, among others. Let's reveal a secret: all six winners are from the regions, which indicates that literature is developing not only in Minsk today.
