Pedestrian border crossing at the international road border crossing points "Grigorovshchina" and "Urbany" is restricted

The Polotsk Border Guard Detachment informs about the temporary suspension of pedestrian traffic through road border crossing points.

The Polotsk Border Guard Detachment informs citizens that, in order to take measures to ensure the safe movement of individuals crossing the State Border of the Republic of Belarus with the Latvian and Lithuanian Republics on foot, to maintain the established regime at road border crossing points, and to create conditions for customs and border control with minimal time expenditure, pedestrian traffic through road border crossing points will be temporarily suspended from October 1, 2014.

In particular, in the area of responsibility of the Polotsk Border Guard Detachment, crossing the border on foot will be temporarily restricted at the international road border crossing points "Grigorovshchina" and "Urbany" on the Belarusian-Latvian border.

Individuals traveling by bicycle will be admitted to the specified border crossing points in the order of their arrival, and their admission to the territory of the border crossing point will be alternated with passenger vehicles. Individuals traveling by bicycle will not have priority over pedestrians.

For reference: since the beginning of the current year, more than 2.2 million pedestrians have crossed the State Border with EU countries, including more than 100,000 people across the Belarusian-Latvian border.

Taking into account the existing security issues for citizens crossing the border on foot, and the objective impossibility of servicing the volume of pedestrian traffic, the State Border Committee asks citizens to treat the temporary inconvenience with understanding and to consider this information when choosing a method of crossing the state border.

Additional information on the procedure for carrying out border control can be obtained on the information portal of the State Border Committee of the Republic of Belarus www.gpk.gov.by.
