The reburial of the remains of 26 Soviet soldiers will take place on July 1 in Beshenkovichi

June 30, Vitebsk / Sergei Kochetov - BELTA /. The reburial ceremony of the remains of 26 Red Army soldiers who died during the Great Patriotic War will take place on July 1 in Beshenkovichi, the department of ideological work of the district executive committee informed a BELTA correspondent. Relatives of one of the soldiers, whose identity has been established, will take part in the event. The remains were found by servicemen of the 52nd specialized search battalion during fieldwork in various locations in the district. Part of the remains was discovered by a resident of the village of Chanovichi, Tamara Yaskevich, while working on her household plot, which she reported to the competent authorities. Subsequently, at this site, searchers recovered the remains of 6 soldiers, unearthed elements of military uniform and one medallion. The insert in the medallion revealed that Usman Nurin, born in 1908, a native of the Gorodishchensky district of the Penza region, died at this location. His son and grandchildren, who still live in the Penza region, will specifically come to the reburial ceremony. The fallen soldiers will be reburied in a mass grave on the territory of the district center. During the Great Patriotic War, fierce battles took place in the Beshenkovichi district in the summer of 1941 and during Operation Bagration in 1944. In total, about 2,000 Soviet soldiers died in battles on the Beshenkovichi land, although, as local historians note, these are not final figures. For forcing the Western Dvina River in the Beshenkovichi district, holding and expanding a bridgehead for the offensive in Operation Bagration, 150 servicemen were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union, 25 of whom are buried in mass graves in the district. -0-
