The first stage of treatment facilities is being commissioned in Rossony under the state program "Clean Water"
In Rossony, Vitebsk region, a wastewater treatment plant is being commissioned today under the State Program for Water Supply and Wastewater Disposal "Clean Water" for 2011-2015, the General Director of UP "Vitebskobvodokanal" Aleksey Khvalko informed a BELTA correspondent.
The construction of the wastewater treatment plant with a capacity of 700 cubic meters of wastewater per day on the outskirts of Rossony began in 2009 using funds from the republican nature protection fund. The project was developed by specialists from UP "Polymerkonstruktsiya", equipment of Lithuanian production was purchased, and construction and installation work and commissioning were carried out by specialists from the Vitebsk Branch No. 1 of UP "Vitebskobvodokanal". Approximately Br9.5 billion was spent on construction. After the completion of commissioning work, the acceptance of the first stage of the wastewater treatment plant - the administrative and production building and sewage networks - was carried out by the commission of the Department of Construction Control and Supervision (Gosstroynadzor).
As clarified by the Director of UP Housing and Communal Services of Rossony District Aleksandr Petrovich, the launch of the wastewater treatment plant is the second significant event under the "Clean Water" program for the district center, which previously only had old and inefficient filtration ponds. The first stage of the program implementation was the commissioning of an iron removal station in 2013, which significantly improved the quality of tap water supplied to the homes of Rossony residents. A sewage pumping station has also been built. However, the work does not end there: it is planned to construct the second stage of the wastewater treatment plant - biological ponds.
The State Program for Water Supply and Wastewater Disposal "Clean Water" for 2011-2015 and the corresponding regional program are designed to create favorable living conditions for people by improving the provision of quality drinking water to the population, modernizing wastewater treatment facilities, and developing and increasing the reliability of water supply and wastewater disposal systems. Over the past period of 2011-2014, Br171.8 billion has been allocated for the implementation of the program in the Vitebsk region. The implementation of the planned measures has made it possible to provide quality drinking water to more than 35,000 residents in 32 settlements of the region, centralized water supply to 96.2% of the population in regional and district centers, as well as 77.9% of the population in agro-towns, and to improve the environmental situation and increase the reliability of the sewerage system in Gorodok, Dubrovno, Ushachi, Sharkovshchina, Rossony, and Dokshitsy.
This year, construction and reconstruction are underway at 30 water supply and sewerage facilities. To improve the centralized provision of quality drinking water to the population, 3 iron removal stations have been commissioned (Osviya village of Verkhnedvinsk district, bread factory in Dokshitsy, Moshkany agro-town of Senno district) and 2 water supply facilities in Glubokoe district and in Gorodok. To improve the quality of wastewater treatment and the environmental situation, five sewerage facilities have been reconstructed this year. With funds from a loan from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), 6 water supply and wastewater disposal facilities have been commissioned in 2011-2014. The design of sewerage systems in the cities of Verkhnedvinsk and Glubokoe has been completed. The construction of these facilities is planned for subsequent years. The Republic of Belarus plans to attract an additional IBRD loan for these purposes, with an amount of $22.2 million allocated for the Vitebsk region.
By 2016, the program implementation will result in providing at least 98% of the population in regional and district centers, cities of regional subordination, and urban-type settlements with centralized water supply of drinking water of normative quality, and at least 80% of the population in agro-towns with centralized water supply.
