The first energy from water was generated at the Vitebsk HPP – the most powerful in the country. The station is operating in test mode
The Vitebsk Hydroelectric Power Station will generate 138 million kilowatts annually. This will be enough, for example, to supply the entire Vitebsk region. The contract for the construction of the power plant was concluded with the China National Electric Equipment Corporation (CNEEC). The project cost is about 190 million dollars. The HPP is being built with loans from the Development Bank of the PRC.
The construction of the HPP is almost complete. Ahead are the launch and landscaping. The station will operate at full capacity in the spring of 2017. But by the end of this year, the first energy from the Western Dvina will appear in the Belarusian energy system.
— The operation of the HPP will reduce the consumption of hydrocarbons that we purchase from Russia. This will increase our country's energy security, — noted the Deputy General Director of Vitebskenergo, Yuri Mitkovets.
