The first shelter for homeless animals in the Vitebsk region opened in the regional center

August 16, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. The first shelter for homeless animals in the Vitebsk region opened today in the regional center, a BELTA correspondent reports.

The shelter is designed for the simultaneous stay of 200 animals - dogs and cats. In addition to indoor enclosures, outdoor enclosures for dogs have been built on the territory. The building has a washing area and a veterinary office. The medical office is equipped with modern ultrasound and ECG machines, and laboratory equipment. After veterinary examination, the animal is placed in quarantine in an isolation ward, and then settled in enclosures. The shelter has its own kitchen where hot food is prepared, as well as a pantry for dry food and refrigerators.

As the head of the shelter, Natalia Zubova, told a BELTA correspondent, there are currently 13 dogs, 11 puppies, and kittens at the shelter. Animals entering the shelter will undergo sterilization and will be kept until new owners are found. Volunteers and members of the Vitebsk charitable public organization "Friends of Animals" will help find homes for the dogs and cats.

In the future, it is planned to create a cynological ground on the basis of the shelter, where dog owners will train their pets under the guidance of an experienced cynologist. Natalia Zubova also does not rule out the possibility of opening an animal hotel.

Reconstruction work on the unused building into a shelter for homeless animals, on the instructions of the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, began in November 2010. The construction was financed by sponsorship funds from the Vitebsk meat processing plant and the communal enterprise "Vesna".-0-
