Pyotr Masherov left an indelible mark on the hearts and memory of Belarusians - Nikolai Sherstnev

Петр Машеров оставил неизгладимый след в сердцах и памяти белорусов - Николай Шерстнев
Piotr Masherov left an indelible mark on the hearts and memories of people. This was emphasized by the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Nikolai Sherstnev, in a conversation with journalists after the solemn laying of flowers at the bust of P.M. Masherov in Vitebsk.

The solemn event in honor of the 100th anniversary of the outstanding statesman, Hero of the Soviet Union, Hero of Socialist Labor Piotr Masherov was attended by representatives of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, veteran organizations, deputies, the public, and youth. "Piotr Mironovich Masherov is an outstanding leader and a large-scale personality, he is known and remembered throughout Belarus. He left an indelible mark on both the hearts and memories of our people," said the head of the region.

Nikolai Sherstnev is convinced that the current generation of Belarusians should contribute to perpetuating the memory of Piotr Masherov. In the Vitebsk region, this needs special attention - Masherov was born in the Senno district, received his education in Vitebsk, and worked in Rossony, where he organized resistance to the occupiers in the rear during the war.

Bright pages of the politician's life are connected with the Rossony district. A memorial hall is dedicated to him in the Museum of Combat Brotherhood of the district center. "Unfortunately, the museum is already in a dilapidated state. Reconstruction awaits it. Project documentation has been prepared, the institution will be completely restored and brought into perfect condition. Significant landscaping of the adjacent territory, a сквер, and the grave of Piotr Mironovich's mother (she was killed by the Germans) are planned. All this will be done as a single complex. The work is intended to be completed in 2018," said Nikolai Sherstnev. He emphasized that the museum complex in Rossony should become a territory of memory and a place where youth patriotic events will be held.

As for the Senno district, where the Masherov family home is allegedly preserved, this is so far only a supposition expressed in the media. "This is just a version. We need to investigate, search for facts, documentary

confirmation. If the assumption is confirmed, then, of course, it will be very significant for Sennenskoye district," - stated the chairman of the regional executive committee. Nikolai Sherstnev emphasized that Sennenskoye district gave Belarus an outstanding leader and today his fellow countrymen should strive to glorify this region with their deeds. "There are plans for the development of the district. Livestock complexes will be built, work is underway to increase the efficiency of agricultural production in order to achieve much higher results. If the plans are realized, it will be a worthy contribution of contemporaries to preserving the memory of the renowned countryman," - summarized the governor. Events dedicated to the centenary of Masherov will continue on February 27 - a solemn meeting will be held at the Vitebsk State University named after P.M. Masherov.
