July 12, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. Writers of Belarus and Russia are implementing a grand project to restore the names of forgotten figures of their peoples. This was announced today at a creative meeting with nominees for the Union State Prize in Literature and Art for 2009-2010 by statesman and Chairman of the Union of Writers of Belarus Nikolai Cherginets. The event was held as part of the Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk arts festival, a BELTA correspondent reports. As part of the project, Belarusian writers, with the help of museums, historians, and scientists, will restore the names of Belarusians who distinguished themselves with significant deeds in Russia. Similar work will be carried out by their Russian colleagues. Based on the collected information, which can be included in textbooks and encyclopedias, writers plan to create literary works. "This will allow Belarusians and Russians to become more widely and fully acquainted with their compatriots who left their mark on the history of the two fraternal peoples," the interlocutor emphasized. During the search work already carried out, it was possible to collect more than 1.5 thousand names of Belarusians whose fate is connected with the pages of Russian history, Nikolai Cherginets added. -0-
