Five Vitebsk residents fell into the trap of a Moscow swindler's "Pay Easily" campaign
July 19, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. Five Vitebsk residents fell victim to a Moscow swindler's "Pay Easily" campaign. This was announced today to journalists at a briefing by Alexander Shaltz, First Deputy Head of the Oktyabrsky District Department of Internal Affairs of Vitebsk, BELTA correspondent reports.
Each of the victims received an SMS in Latin script, which contained congratulations on winning a prize draw among phone card owners. Within 24 hours of the message, the winner - the potential owner of a brand new "Audi A6" - was asked to call back, otherwise the grand prize would go to another subscriber. Fueled by interest, doubt, the desire to receive an expensive car, and the fear of losing it, the client called. In a confident voice, which did not allow for interruption of the monologue with a lot of legal details and other nuances, the caller confirmed the received information and offered to check it on the company's official website. All further processing of the "winners" was carried out according to one scheme, at the key moments of which the victims parted with their money. In total, each of the victims voluntarily transferred about 50 thousand Russian rubles to the swindler. At the same time, the swindler himself showed a good knowledge of psychology and took care to ensure that his information looked plausible in case of a quick check.
Alexander Shaltz attributes the fact that the swindler's victims were residents of the Oktyabrsky district of Vitebsk to chance. "In fact, there may be significantly more victims," he suggested, urging everyone who received a similar message to contact law enforcement agencies.
This campaign easily correlates with the well-known Nigerian letters. "Therefore, before rushing to pay, you need to check the received information as thoroughly as possible and remember that winning a campaign in which you did not express a desire to participate is most likely a pure scam," concluded Alexander Shaltz.-0-
