The area of the flag and coat of arms will appear in Vitebsk
By the end of the year, a new public space for holding ceremonies will appear in Vitebsk. Its central element will be a 69-meter flagpole. In the future, the object may receive a different status – an element of the street and road network "Flag and Emblem Square".
This became known during the presentation of the architectural and planning concept of the object "Construction of a flagpole on the territory of the Park of the 1000th Anniversary of Vitebsk". The event was organized as part of the public discussion of the project, which will last until March 31.
The land plot selected for the construction of the flagpole is located in the northern part of the Park of the 1000th Anniversary of Vitebsk and is bounded by Builders Avenue, Novoorshanskaya Street, and the Palace of Sport territory.As explained by the State Enterprise "UKS of the city of Vitebsk", the client of the project, at this stage, the object is designed as a specially organized public space, the main purpose of which is to hold ceremonies. This function predetermined the design and architectural solutions. It is also important that the new space harmoniously fits into the existing development.
Construction work is planned to begin immediately after the completion of design and passing the expertise. Subsequently, when the object is erected, its status may change from a public space to an element of the street and road network. This issue falls within the competence of the Vitebsk City Council of Deputies and is considered at a session of the representative body of city power.
The project was developed by UP "Institute Vitebskgrazhdanproekt". The designed object is a square-shaped area of 2.5 thousand square meters. In the center, it is planned to install a flagpole on a reinforced concrete podium with a total height of 69 meters. It is assumed that the size of the flag will be 7 meters wide and 14 meters long. A mandatory condition is the arrangement of lighting for the flag, flagpole, and the territory along the perimeter with the installation of video surveillance cameras on lighting poles.
The main entrance to the square is planned from Builders Avenue. At the beginning of the main entrance, it is proposed to install a granite sign with the image of the statenational symbols of the Republic of Belarus (including the words of the anthem) and the name of the square. In addition, on both sides of the flagpole, there will be two LED screens with sound equipment, as well as an interactive (information) panel. Small architectural forms, including benches and flower beds, are planned to be placed around the perimeter of the square. More than a hundred trees and shrubs will be used for landscaping, including apple trees, willows, maples, spruces, and thuja trees.
