A carpenter from Dokshytsy will pay Br10.5 million for creating malicious software
April 23, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. A carpenter from Dokshitsy (Vitebsk region) will pay Br10.5 million for creating malicious software. This was announced today to journalists by Ivan Sotnikov, senior investigator of the preliminary investigation department of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee's Internal Affairs Directorate, as reported by a BELTA correspondent.
In his free time from his main job, the 24-year-old guy developed computer programs. Once, this intellectual hobby went beyond the bounds of legality: the young man created malicious software that allowed remote control of someone else's computer. To get infected, it was enough to visit a website that offered free access to movies and download an archive. Thus, the novice hacker gained access to 20 computers and all the information stored on them, including confidential data of the owners residing in different regions of Belarus. In this case, the victims were lucky: the hacker from Dokshitsy acted out of pure curiosity and did not use the obtained data for mercenary or personal purposes, noted Ivan Sotnikov.
The crime was uncovered and the perpetrator was identified with the help of another advanced Internet user: a 14-year-old teenager from Mogilev exposed the hacker and posted complete information about him and his program on his website. -0-
