An excursion tram will run in Novopolotsk

По Новополоцку будет ездить экскурсионный трамвай

Its passengers, primarily schoolchildren and young people, will be told about the environmental problems of large cities and the role of transport in solving them.

Novopolotsk is one of the four Belarusian cities that have trams. According to Elena Tsikhelashvili, head of the Novopolotsk tram depot section, it is currently experiencing a rebirth in the oil city :

– Out of our 30 passenger cars, more than a third were manufactured by the Belkommunmash enterprise. One of them is the latest experimental development. These are comfortable, economical, and environmentally friendly vehicles. And environmental issues are very relevant for Novopolotsk, where major petrochemical enterprises such as Naftan and Polimir are located. Therefore, tram service in the city will be developed. A project is being developed to extend the tram tracks to the new housing development area in order to relieve pressure on Molodezhnaya Street from cars. The tram is the transport of the future. It is no coincidence that it is now being revived in many European cities.

Excursion participants will learn about the development of tram traffic in the world and Belarus, and will take part in engaging quizzes. By the way, tram excursions are just one of many events of the European Mobility Week, which is taking place in Novopolotsk from September 16 to 22. For example, a youth bike quest is planned for Saturday, a traditional bike ride will start there on Monday, and on Tuesday, a city festival will be held on Freedom Square, featuring bike competitions, master classes in bicycle maneuvering, and a flash mob.
