In terms of average teacher salaries, the Vitebsk region has taken the lead in the republic, second only to Minsk

This was announced at a joint meeting of the standing commissions of the regional Council of Deputies by the head of the education department of the regional executive committee, Ivan Shchurok. The average salary for 2014 increased by 18.8%, including for pedagogical workers – by 25.3%, and for teachers – by 25.8%. As a result, it amounted to 4058 thousand rubles. Savings from the optimization of the sector, i.e., the closure and reorganization of educational institutions in the region, were directed towards increasing wages. In addition, this result was made possible by bonuses for having qualification categories. Pedagogical workers of Vitebsk region are leaders in this indicator. About 80% of those working in the education system have the highest and first qualification categories.
