Winners of the annual "Civil Courage" campaign, which has been held at the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee for the third year in a row, were honored today in Vitebsk, a BELTA correspondent reports from the awards ceremony. The ceremony honored residents of the region who, in the opinion of the Internal Affairs Directorate staff, most vividly demonstrated their firm civic stance and courage in the past year. Thus, a diploma "For Courage and Determination" was awarded to Vitebsk resident Ivan Stankevich, who detained a thief fleeing with stolen proceeds in the "Belarus" shopping center. Thanks to the vigilance of the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of PSU named after P.M. Masherov, Veslav Turkovsky, a man who stole a laptop from one of the university's lecture halls was detained. The Vice-Rector was presented with the diploma "For Promptness". Student of Polotsk State University Anton Khodosevich and his mother were awarded for their courage and resourcefulness. The young man trapped a robber who was stealing from a rural store by removing the ladder used to enter the premises through the roof. His mother called the police. Three young friends from the Orsha district, who personally detained a local arsonist, were awarded diplomas "Brave Heart". "It is gratifying to realize that every year there are more and more such worthy people (especially young people). Last year alone, thanks to the courage, bravery, and conscientiousness of the residents of the Vitebsk region, about 50 crimes were solved in the region," emphasized the Head of the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Alexander Naydenko, congratulating the winners.
