Winners of "Lord of the Village" in the Vitebsk region will receive a calf
10 young families – winners of the district stages of the competition – will compete for the title of the best. "Master of the Village" will traditionally open with the participants' "Vitayem pa-belarusku!" (Welcome in Belarusian!) introductory presentations. They will have to talk about their family, traditions, hobbies, and leisure in national costumes of their region. The jury will also evaluate an exhibition of the contestants' achievements in their household, work, and studies. An exciting part of the project will be a log-splitting contest, "Viaskovaya estafeta" (Rural Relay Race), which includes running with a pot hook, sorting fruits, and carrying water on a yoke. As homework, the contestants have prepared video clips about their agricultural homesteads, the best of which will be determined by online voting. In addition, each family will have to bake draniki (potato pancakes) on a stove and serve them beautifully. "The winning family will receive a calf as a prize," the district executive committee reported.
The event is organized by the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, the Sharkovshchina District Executive Committee, the Vitebsk Regional Committee of the Belarusian Youth Union (BRSM), the regional committee of the trade union of agricultural workers, the public association "Belaya Rus", the public association "Belarusian Peace Foundation", and the Belarusian Red Cross Society.
"Master of the Village" started in 2007 in the Glubokoe district and immediately attracted public attention. In 2008, the project reached the national level. Since then, it has annually brought together hundreds of young families (spouses no older than 31, their children) living in rural areas for at least 3 years and working in the countryside. The competition consists of district, regional, and national stages, which allows for maximum attention to participation in the project and its popularization among the rural population.
