Andrei Kostitsyn's winning goal brought another Br25 million to the Novopolotsk ice hockey school
May 9, Minsk /BelTA correspondent/. The specialized youth sports school of the Olympic reserve of the hockey club "Khimik" from Novopolotsk will receive another Br25 million from the Presidential Sports Club for the winning goal scored by Belarusian national team forward Andrei Kostitsyn in the match against Slovenia on the final day of the tournament for retaining a place in the elite division of the World Championship, which is taking place in Bratislava and Kosice, Slovakia, BelTA has learned.
The 7-1 victory over the Slovenians allowed the Belarusian team to remain in the elite of world hockey. Andrei Kostitsyn scored two goals in this match, and the first of them, scored in the 8th minute of the game, was the winning goal.
As part of the project, launched in 2010 at the previous World Championship in Germany, the Presidential Sports Club grants each player of the Belarusian national team who scores a winning goal, as well as the goaltender who achieves a shutout, the right to choose a youth hockey school that will receive gratuitous assistance in the amount of Br25 million to strengthen its material and technical base and organize sports events.
As reported to BelTA by the press service of the Presidential Sports Club, Belarusian national team and Montreal Canadiens forward Andrei Kostitsyn, for whom this is the second winning goal at the current World Championship, has once again decided to support the hockey school from his hometown. Thus, the gratuitous targeted assistance for the specialized youth sports school of the Olympic reserve of the hockey club "Khimik" will amount to Br50 million.
Andrei Kostitsyn scored his first winning goal at the current World Championship on May 6 in the match against Austria (7-2) in the opening game of the relegation tournament.
At the 2011 World Championship in Slovakia, the Belarusian national team won only two matches. After losing to Canada (1-4), Switzerland (1-4), and France (1-2 in overtime) in the preliminary round of the tournament, the Belarusians finished last in their group. In the relegation tournament, Belarus defeated Austria (7-2), lost to Latvia (3-6), and beat Slovenia (7-1), managing to stay in the top division and finishing 14th out of 16 teams.
In 2010, at the World Championship in Germany, goaltender Andrei Mezin also exercised his right to choose in favor of the Novopolotsk youth sports school of the hockey club "Khimik". In addition, amounts of Br25 million were directed to the Grodno youth sports school No. 10 (by decision of the author of the winning goal Mikhail Stefanovich) and twice to the youth sports school of the hockey club "Yunost-Minsk" (chosen by Alexei Kalyuzhny).
Next year, the Ice Hockey World Championship will be held in Finland and Sweden. The Presidential Sports Club will continue its campaign to support Belarusian hockey schools and hopes that the national team players will be able to achieve more victories than at the current world forum in Slovakia.-0-
