Why were primary school students relocated to a kindergarten in the urban settlement of Yezershchye, Horadok District

Call to the "direct line" of the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee Nikolai Sherstnev: in Yezherishche, children were moved from the school to the kindergarten, where they are today on sufferance. There are allegedly no conditions for studying. First-graders have nowhere to sleep, and nowhere to play. Why are the children not returned to school, thereby violating the child's rights? "R" correspondent went to the scene to understand the situation. Comfortable school classrooms have been equipped in the kindergarten.

Reboot without a burden

The last time I was in the border town of Yezherishche was about two years ago. Then the locals complained about employment problems, the poor condition of roads, social and housing facilities. They claimed that everyone had forgotten about them, the youth were leaving, and the town was turning into an unpromising settlement.

What has changed during this time? It is obvious to the naked eye – a lot. Renovated two-story houses look like new buildings. A boom lift is standing near the nurses' care hospital, which also houses the polyclinic – a major overhaul is also underway here.

The chairman of the rural executive committee, Vladimir Katorzhevsky, says:

— Based on the President's instructions, a schedule for the improvement of settlements has been developed in the Vitebsk region. We were included in this list along with Bolbasovo for 2018. But since not everything was done last year, the work continues this year.

Vladimir Ivanovich lists: a total of ten apartment buildings have been majorly repaired, and another ten have undergone current repairs. Chkalov and Komsomolskaya streets have been improved, meliorators are working in the settlement to drain excess water, old trees have been removed, street lighting has been modernized, the post office and shop have been put in order, and the renovation of the House of Culture is nearing completion. Several streets have been partially asphalted, and two children's playgrounds have been equipped. More large-scale projects are ahead. According to the plan, 3 more streets will be improved, and a kindergarten is being prepared for major repairs. But the work in the three-story school building is already being completed. It was this last facility that became a stumbling block: one of the grandmothers of two younger students was unhappy with the relocation of schoolchildren to the kindergarten. As a result —

an alarming call to the governor's "hotline".

From school to kindergarten

— Yes, we were forced to transfer grades 1-4 from the school to the kindergarten for the duration of the repairs, — states Natalia Beresneva, head of the education department of the Gorodok District Executive Committee. — The parents themselves chose this option, although others were offered to them. For example, we could have transported the children by bus 20 kilometers to the Bychikha school. But people decided: it's cramped, but no offense. Especially since there is no such crampness — you can see for yourself. Everything is within sanitary and hygienic standards. And no one complains, except for one single grandmother...

No complaints from parents were heard by the kindergarten principal Valentina Komarova:

— Our kindergarten is designed for 110 children, but now we only have 39. Therefore, we gave the younger students an entire wing with a separate entrance. We made sure that the children's flows do not intersect, but we ourselves had to squeeze in a bit. So, the inconvenience arose more for the kindergarteners than for the schoolchildren – we had to combine two groups of children into one. But the parents were understanding of this situation. We ended up with 27 children – toddlers aged 4 to 6 years. They are taught by 2 educators and 2 assistant educators at once. The room is spacious, divided into zones, and we coexist quite peacefully. To equip a bedroom for the first-graders, we repurposed the assembly hall for this purpose. We remove the folding beds during performances, and then set them up again. For the staff, of course, it's extra work, but it's worth it.

Indeed, judging by the environment, the little ones are not deprived of anything. And the group, by city standards, is not that large. Especially with four pedagogical workers.

And how are over fifty schoolchildren living in the kindergarten now? Let's go on a tour of the classrooms. The smallest is the former speech therapist's office. It's a small room. But here, there are only two desks for four second-graders. The other classrooms are quite cozy and spacious, almost every one has its own separate bathroom. In the yard, there is a convenient playground. I ask the children:

— Do you like it here, or do you want to return to school as soon as possible?
In response – a forest of hands. They say it's better in kindergarten. And we go to the school across the road for meals. They are still doing repairs there, so there's no rush. Many, as they joke, would be willing to stay here until the eleventh grade.

A construction site is not for children

Natalia Beresneva admits: yes, the housewarming has been slightly delayed. Initially, they expected the schoolchildren to return to the renovated classrooms by the new year. It didn't happen. There were problems with the design and estimate documentation, and the major repairs started later than planned. But that's not the main thing – the main thing
in that it did take place, the work is already nearing completion. For the most part, only routine repairs to classrooms and grounds improvement remain, for which appropriate weather conditions are needed.

— Our school is almost half a century old, — notes Deputy Director Tatyana Akimchenkova. — And it has never had a major overhaul. Now, in addition to beautiful corridors and a foyer, we have a cozy canteen, a new roof, wall thermal renovation, a modern fire alarm system, and even video surveillance. During the renovation, we constantly moved middle and high school students from floor to floor to avoid disturbing the builders and minimize inconvenience to the children themselves. But, you must agree, younger students don't need all these problems — let them study calmly in the kindergarten, and after all the work is completed, they will solemnly return to school. Especially since they need constant supervision now — we are already paying maximum attention to safety, constantly monitoring the situation to prevent trouble. Before classes, we first gather the children in a nearby park, chto then enter the building in an organized manner, without losing anyone along the way.

Near the educational institution, we meet the mother of two younger students. Svetlana Ivanova is in favor of continuing the "lease" of the kindergarten with both hands. Her opinion is that children should only return to school after the work is completely finished. All parents, she says, agree with this.

On a positive note

While some complain about minor inconveniences, strategic issues are being discussed at the kindergarten and school: more than ten children are born annually in Ezerishche. God willing, that theThe overall improvement of the town also affected its social attractiveness for young people. The renovated school and kindergarten are serious arguments for a rural settlement located fifty kilometers from the district center and practically on the border with the Russian Federation. It seems that young people will be more willing to stay in their native places and start families. Then the classrooms and groups will not be empty. And the current difficulties are just temporary inconvenconveniences leading to a better life. Therefore, the attitude towards them should be appropriate. r />
By the way, during the renovation, parents of schoolchildren have repeatedly offered their gratuitous assistance to the builders for its speedy completion. Such conscientiousness is invaluable.
