The Honorary Consulate of the Slovak Republic opened in Vitebsk
"Despite the fact that the Slovak Embassy is working quite effectively in Belarus, the leadership of this country has seen interesting opportunities for developing cooperation in the fields of economy, culture, education, etc. in the northeastern region of Belarus - and the honorary consulate's responsibilities include the Vitebsk and Mogilev regions," emphasized Honorary Consul Aleksey Sychev.
The activities of the honorary consulate will be aimed at establishing closer contacts between economic entities, cultural figures, universities, and other potential partners, as reported by a BELTA correspondent. In particular, there are plans to hold a business forum either on the eve of or directly during the "Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk" festival, where agreements on cooperation between universities in the northern region of Belarus and Slovakia are expected to be signed, as well as a sister-city agreement between Vitebsk and one of the Slovak cities with comparable potential (two options are being considered - Kosice and Presov).
The first step taken by Aleksey Sychev in his capacity as honorary consul to strengthen cultural ties between the Vitebsk region and Slovakia was the exhibition "Greetings from Belarus," which opened on the same day at the library of the Vitebsk State Medical University. This photo and music project from four Visegrad Group countries is dedicated to the 10th anniversary of Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Poland, and Hungary joining the European Union.
The opening ceremony of the honorary consulate was attended by Oleg Matskevich, Deputy Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Miroslav Mojžita, Ambassador of Slovakia to Belarus, Dagmar Repčeková, Director General of the Trade Department of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of Slovakia, as well as Vilmos Sziklavári, Ambassador of Hungary to Belarus, and Milan Ekert, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Belarus.
