Almost 200 young track and field athletes will take part in the republican Spartakiad of the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus in Vitebsk

The Republican Athletics Spartakiad among specialized educational and sports institutions of the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus starts today in Vitebsk with the participation of almost 200 young athletes, Yuri Nedosekov, the state coach of the national athletics team for the Vitebsk region, told a BELTA correspondent. The Spartakiad will be held at the arena of the Vitebsk Central Sports Complex. 13 teams from almost all regions of the country have gathered in the city on the Dvina River, consisting of boys and girls born in 1994-1995. Athletes will compete for awards in 16 events, mainly running at various distances, jumps, throws, as well as relays. Competitions are held in individual and team standings. Based on the results, the winning team will be awarded a Cup, and the winners and prize-winners of the tournament in the individual standings will take home medals and valuable gifts from the organizers from Vitebsk. The final starts and the awards ceremony for the best track and field athletes will take place on September 19. Vitebsk is hosting the Republican Trade Union Athletics Spartakiad for the first time. In recent years, significant work has been done in the regional center to strengthen the material and technical base and develop athletics infrastructure, which has allowed the "queen of sports" to return to the city and hold various athletics competitions at a decent level. -0-
