Almost every tenth administrative offense case in the courts of the Vitebsk region is dismissed

August 18, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. Almost every tenth administrative offense case in the courts of the Vitebsk region is terminated for various reasons. This was announced today to journalists by the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Court, Nikolai Khamichenok, in response to a question from a BELTA correspondent.

The courts of the Vitebsk region note an increase in the number of administrative offense cases considered, while the number of criminal and civil cases is decreasing. In the first half of the current year, the courts considered over 35.5 thousand administrative cases, while in the same period last year, there were 31.8 thousand. The courts attribute the increase to changes in legislation, according to which persons who commit petty hooliganism and drink alcohol in public places are subject to administrative action. The largest number of persons brought to justice in the Vitebsk region are for petty hooliganism - 39% of the total number, for drinking alcoholic beverages in public places or appearing in a public place while intoxicated - 32%, for petty theft - 7%.

For over 75% of persons subject to administrative penalties, the courts impose a fine, approximately 14% are punished by arrest, followed by deprivation of special rights and warnings in order of frequency of application.

Proceedings were terminated in 2.6 thousand administrative cases for various reasons. According to Nikolai Khamichenok, this is a rather high indicator, which indicates that the drawing up of administrative protocols is not always justified.

In the first half of the current year, proceedings were completed in 3 thousand criminal cases and 22.6 thousand civil cases in the courts of the Vitebsk region. In January-June 2010, the courts considered 3.8 thousand criminal and 22.7 thousand civil cases. -0-
