Almost three hundred units of special and snow-removal equipment are working around the clock on republican highways in the Vitebsk region, Dmitry Borovik, head of the road maintenance department of the Vitebskavtodor Republican Unitary Enterprise of Automobile Roads, told a BELTA correspondent. The total length of republican highways in the region is 2.8 thousand km. Due to adverse weather conditions, 165 units of snow-removal equipment and 120 sand and salt spreaders are currently deployed on them - this is all the equipment under the enterprise's management. According to Dmitry Borovik, the Vitebskavtodor dispatch service is in constant contact with road users, and patrol teams are on duty on the highways to monitor the condition of the roadway. According to the traffic police department of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, the operational situation on the region's roads remains calm. The Vitebsk Regional Center for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring "Vitebskoblgidromet" predicts that snowfall will be short-lived in the coming days. Over the past day, 3 mm to 6 mm of precipitation fell in the region, which increased the snow cover by 2-6 cm. The lowest snow cover depth was recorded in the southeast of the region, where it is 10-11 cm. The highest was recorded in the northwest in the Verkhnedvinsky district - 24 cm.
