Archaeologists have discovered a 12th-century princely residence near Ushachy

Belarusian archaeologists have discovered a 12th-century suburban princely residence on the shore of Lake Chersvydy in the Ushachy district. This is reported by ONT channel.

— For the first time in Belarusian archaeology, we have managed to identify a suburban residence of the Polotsk princes, which was located in this place in the 12th century, — noted Marat Klimov, a researcher at the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

Archaeologists have identified fragments of two buildings. There may be at least ten more structures underground. One of the main discoveries of almost the entire field season is a book clasp from the era of Euphrosyne of Polotsk. Several fragments of Greek amphorae have also been found. This also confirms the high status of the buildings. Among the artifacts is an armor-piercing arrow. During internecine strife, the princely residence may have been burned down. Later, a new settlement appeared in this place. Scientists associate the finds with the descendants of the legendary Prince Vseslav the Sorcerer. Work at the unique site is ongoing. The current task is to determine the center of the estate.
