Traffic opened on a new bridge over the Western Dvina near Vitebsk
Traffic has been opened on a new bridge over the Western Dvina River in the Ruba settlement area near Vitebsk. There were no celebrations for this occasion, as the new bridge is not a separate facility, but only part of the fourth commissioning complex of the north-western bypass of the regional center.
Road construction workers plan to complete the project by the autumn of 2017, said Mikhail Akulich, Deputy General Director for Economics of the Vitebskavtodor enterprise:
— The length of the new bridge is 236 meters, the width is 10 meters, and the estimated cost is 36 million rubles. Currently, traffic flows in both directions here, but in the future they will be separated: traffic will go towards Vitebsk over the new bridge, and towards the border with Russia over the old one, which will now be closed for reconstruction.
The north-western bypass of Vitebsk is being built to remove transit traffic from the streets of Vitebsk, as well as to redistribute intra-city
auto-flows. While the construction of only the fourth commissioning complex is underway, there are still three more ahead.Olga KRUCHENKOVA, SB Belarus Today, photos by BELTA.
