Gifts from a numismatist and an artist from the USA will launch an exhibition about fellow countrymen in the Orsha museum

October 2, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. The Museum Complex of History and Culture of Orsha Region decided to unite compatriots living abroad, the director of the complex Irina Voronova told a BELTA correspondent. Once, the famous Orsha native, Belarusian writer Vladimir Korotkevich, dreamed of this, the interlocutor recalled. But the first step towards unification was taken by natives of Orsha living in America. One of them, a few days ago, donated a certified collection of 90 one-cent coins, issued in the USA in 1948-1998, to the museum. As Irina Voronova noted, the complex's numismatic collection includes about 3,000 coins from the 16th-21st centuries, but until recently, there were no foreign ones. Moreover, the donated collection is complete, which makes it very valuable. Another gift came from New York from artist Elena Tylkina. She left Orsha in 1989, but still positions herself as a Belarusian artist. Elena Tylkina is a member of the National Association of American Women Artists, which included renowned masters such as Mary Cassatt and Judy Chicago. She won a competition held by the prestigious art magazine Manhatten Art International. Reproductions of her paintings have appeared in this and other magazines. Elena's works are willingly bought by private collectors. She donated the painting "Slavyanochka" and a catalog of her graphic and painting works to the Orsha museum. According to Irina Voronova, these gifts are worthy of starting a separate exhibition dedicated to compatriots. It is possible that the next stage will be the creation of the Orsha Community, which would contribute to the preservation and enhancement of cultural heritage and help establish business contacts with foreign business circles. The first community in the republic united more than 200 natives of Polotsk. -0-
